Employment Procedures

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of San Antonio. The Department of Catholic Schools will facilitate the hiring process by keeping your complete application and required documents on file for one year from the receipt of the application.  They will be made accessible to schools within the Archdiocese.  In order for your file to be activated:

  1. Complete and return the employment application.
  2. Provide official transcripts from all accredited institutions attended. An unofficial copy can be submitted temporarily.
  3. Arrange to have three reference forms sent within 1 month of receipt of the application.
  4. Read the “General Information for Applicants” that follows this letter.

Before being offered a ministry agreement, you must complete a Criminal Background Search Authorization and Release Form and return it to the Archdiocesan Office of Human Resources for processing.  All employment is contingent upon successful completion of the background check.

  1. Download the application from this website. The acceptance of an application does not imply that there is a vacancy or that the applicant is under consideration for immediate appointment.
  2. The application should be filled out completely. Please DO NOT state “See Resume”. Indicate N/A as needed.
  3. All documents become the property of the Archdiocese of San Antonio Department of Catholic Schools, which reserves the right to accept or reject them.
  4. All documents must be received within one month of receipt of the first item. If all documents are not received, the existing paperwork will be considered inactive and will be destroyed.

II         EMPLOYMENT

  • Interviewing and Hiring
    After careful review and evaluation of the required documents, the applicant’s information will be made available to the principals at all archdiocesan affiliated schools. Contacts and interviews will be made by the interested principal. Employment offers will be made by the hiring principal.

III.       SALARY

  • All salary arrangements are made at the local campus with the school principal.

IV        INSURANCE

  1. The Archdiocese of San Antonio provides premium paid medical and dental coverage and a prescription service for all full-time employees of the archdiocese.
  2. Dependent coverage is offered at the employee’s expense.

TCCED Educational Personnel Requirements
(Minimum Requirements)
PRINCIPAL: The Principal must be a Catholic with a commitment to ongoing formation in catechetical and spiritual leadership development. All principals must have a master's degree with 18 hours in educational administration and supervision courses.
TEACHERS: Teachers must hold a bachelor's degree in the area they are assigned to teach or a degree and a minimum of 18 content area hours and 12 education hours. Technology proficiency is required of those teachers who will be integrating technology into the content areas. A special effort is made to hire Catholics as teachers.

LIBRARIAN:
(Secondary) Hold a master's degree in library science or a bachelor's degree with a learning resources endorsement. Evidence in proficiency in the use of information technology resources.
(Elementary) Hold a minimum of an Associates Degree or sixty (60) college hours. Evidence of knowledge of library procedures, technical services, material selections, appropriate selection of books, including quality children's literature books, basic reference skills, and the use of information technology resources.

COUNSELOR: Must have a master's degree in counseling. A master's degree in psychology or social work is acceptable if graduate courses in counseling are included in the degree. Texas certification is not required for employment.

Vice Principal - Incarnate Word High School
San Antonio, Texas

Position begins June 1, 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter.  This is a 12 month position.  Applicants must apply online at the University of the Incarnate Word at http://www.uiw.edu

Position Summary:  The Vice-Principal, under the direction of the Principal, oversees the academic and instructional programs, curriculum and staff development and serves as principal of summer school at Incarnate Word High School (IWHS). IWHS is a private, college preparatory Catholic all-girls high school of approximately 550 students.  The Vice-Principal reports directly to the Principal and assists in the day to day operation of the school and serves as the representative of the school upon request of the Principal. Must be a practicing Catholic.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  Supervises the Registrar’s Office and provides leadership and guidance to two Guidance Counselors.

Works in conjunction with:

  • The Registrar and Guidance Office overseeing the accuracy and timeliness of all grade reports, transcripts, academic communications with parents, the preparation and administration of semester exams and development of an effective master schedule.
  • The Director of Student Services, scheduling the academic day, coordinating class coverage for absent teachers and the testing center as needed.
  • The AP faculty, coordinating, approving and insuring timely submission of AP syllabi.
  • The Principal, supervising, observing, and evaluating faculty.
  • The Principal and Guidance Office, planning awards, honors and graduation ceremonies.
  • Other members of the administrative team, supervising student activities, participating in all school events, assisting with enrollment efforts. (These activities require evening and weekend work.)

Provides resources and coordinates faculty staff development and in-services. Provides academic guidance to students and implements programs for student success. Plans and implements academic parental informational opportunities and meetings. Oversees publication of curriculum and course guides. Serves as the Principal of summer school.  The Vice Principal actively promotes the mission of the school and the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word.

Required Education:  Masters Degree in Education or other related field or eminent completion of a masters degree.
Required Experience: Three years teaching experience. Two years supervisory experience.
