The Department of Catholic Schools assists individuals who wish to become employed as administrators, teachers, or substitute teachers for one of the 45 schools located within the Archdiocese of San Antonio. The information listed below pertains to each and all of these employment categories.

PLEASE NOTE: Employment in the area of school janitorial, kitchen, or maintenance are not handled by the Department of Catholic Schools. These positions are handled directly by the school principal. Please contact individual schools for more information.

Obtaining an Application

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of San Antonio. The Department of Catholic Schools (DCS) will facilitate the hiring process by keeping your complete application on file for two years. It will be made accessible to our schools within the Archdiocese for employment purposes. Some schools may require that you complete an application locally.

In order for your file to be activated, please complete the items listed below:

  1. Complete and return the employment application.
  2. Provide an original copy of all transcripts from regionally accredited institutions.
  3. Arrange to have three letters of recommendation sent in a timely manner.

Interviewing and hiring are conducted at the local campus. Upon being offered a ministry agreement, the applicant will provide the necessary information for a criminal background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the process.

TCCED Educational Personnel Requirements
(Minimum Requirements)
PRINCIPAL: The Principal must be a Catholic with a commitment to ongoing formation in catechetical and spiritual leadership development. All principals must have a master's degree with 18 hours in educational administration and supervision courses.
TEACHERS: Teachers must hold a bachelor's degree in the area they are assigned to teach or a degree and a minimum of 18 content area hours and 12 education hours. Technology proficiency is required of those teachers who will be integrating technology into the content areas. A special effort is made to hire Catholics as teachers.

LIBRARIAN:
(Secondary) Hold a master's degree in library science or a bachelor's degree with a learning resources endorsement. Evidence in proficiency in the use of information technology resources.
(Elementary) Hold a minimum of an Associates Degree or sixty (60) college hours. Evidence of knowledge of library procedures, technical services, material selections, appropriate selection of books, including quality children's literature books, basic reference skills, and the use of information technology resources.

COUNSELOR: Must have a master's degree in counseling. A master's degree in psychology or social work is acceptable if graduate courses in counseling are included in the degree. Texas certification is not required for employment.

The Archdiocese of San Antonio is seeking a Superintendent of Catholic Schools. The superintendent is responsible for providing vision and leadership for the 44 Catholic schools of the Archdiocese. The superintendent develops and administers Archdiocesan policies working collaboratively with principals, pastors, and Archdiocesan staff.

Requirements:

  • A practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church and knowledgeable in Catholic theology;
  • A master’s degree in educational administration or the equivalent;
  • At least five years experience in administration and management in a Catholic school, preferably diocesan administration experience;
  • A background in financial management of schools;
  • Ability to work within a multicultural environment.

Responsibilities include:

Qualifications:

  1. Masters degree in Educational Leadership, preferred
  2. 5+ years teaching experience
  3. 3+ years experience in a ICIF school preferred
  4. Proficiency with curriculum development, implementation and teacher professional development
  5. Exceptional leadership and teamwork capabilities
  6. Excellent social qualities, a sound character, and a firm and kind manner
  7. Excellent and proven people management and communication skills
  8. Strong organizational abilities, sound judgment, and good common sense
  9. Sound knowledge of and affinity for the Integral FormationSM method of education

Business Manager

The business manager is responsible for providing the business administration services necessary to achieve the school’s educational mission. 
The business manager is responsible for the annual administrative program ensuring: the effective operation of the school; the upkeep of the properties; the maximum level of output from the administrative and maintenance staff; the optimum use of the school’s building space and monetary resources, including billings and timely payments.

The business manager has responsibility for the following areas:

  • Financial management
  • Administration; legal and tax matters
  • Personnel management
  • Auxiliary services (food services, bus transportation, etc.)
  • Maintenance

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related area of study; advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of five years experience in business management, with at least three years in a specialized field of business: accounting, information technology, facilities management, human resource management, school administration, or financial management
  • Strong general business and staff management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and manage high stress situations
  • Demonstrated capacity for leadership and teamwork
  • Excellent communication skills, discreet and diplomatic
